Installing Eclipse and GWT Plugin

Eclipse installed successfully from the Ubuntu Software Center.  There was two versions in the center for this beta release and I installed the non-standard version because Eclipse was giving me jip (buttons not working) in previous Ubuntu releases.

After that we need to install the GWT plugin.  This page highlights the procedure to do this: http://code.google.com/eclipse/docs/getting_started.html#installing

The first hiccup occurs when we need to install the plugin: Help -> Software Updates -> Find and Install

After adding the correct download location in the new remote sites section and clicking next (http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.5) Eclipse complains that a package is missing.

 Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.5 (1.2.0.v200912062003) requires plug-in "org.eclipse.wst.xml.core".

 I think my enthusiasm for the latest beta on every component maybe having an effect, but I am having trouble downloading this package because the Remote Sites section of the update isn't working.  As an alternative I am going to attempt to download a generic all in one package from the eclipse site to hopefully solve this dependency.

Update - Start Over
I have decided to develop on Windows 7.  ALthough I would love to use Ubuntu I am using a version which is too new and too beta to work correctly.  Therefore I have switched to Window 7 - Eclipse 3.5.
